What we see from Adyar
Property is often the central issue in Adyar matters rather than maintenance: a house bought decades ago, now worth a great deal, held jointly or inherited from a parent. Valuation and how the asset is divided usually dominates the settlement.
None of that changes the law. It does change which applications are worth making first, and that is what a first consultation is for.
Which court will hear your matter
Jurisdiction in a matrimonial matter is determined by where the parties last resided together, where the marriage was solemnised, or where the respondent currently resides: not simply by which neighbourhood you live in now.
For most Chennai residents that means the Family Courts in the city. Where a spouse has moved to another district or abroad, more than one court may have jurisdiction, and there is a real strategic choice to be made. We work that out at the first consultation, before anything is filed.
Getting to us, and getting to court
Adyar is a straightforward run to the courts along the Marina and Kamarajar Salai, or by metro from Thiruvanmiyur. Consultations at our office can also be arranged by video where travel is inconvenient.
Where you are outside India, or travel is genuinely difficult, most stages of a matter can be handled without your physical presence. Attendance is required for recording statements and evidence, and video-conferencing can sometimes be arranged for those as well.
